Don’t look back in anger (oasis cover)

This has been one of my all-time favorite songs for the past couple of years. It's one that I never get tired of and listen to all of the time. I love the message and meaning behind the words and honestly, just everything about it.

We rehearsed it as a band last week and can't wait to play our arrangement of it live soon!

"It started off as a song of defiance, about this woman: She's metaphorically seeing the diary of her life pass by, and she's thinking, 'You know what? I have no regrets.' She's raising a glass to it."

Call Out My Name (live)

Saint Samuel performs Call Out My Name off of his debut EP.

"I wrote this about what it's like when a relationship is coming to an end. It's about how even though you're incredible sad, angry, upset, or maybe even relieved, you find yourself hoping the best for the other person because you know you'll never truly stop caring for them."

On a Wire (piano version) - Live from The Canal Club

10 years ago, at the age of 13, I got to play my first gig ever at The Canal Club in Richmond, VA. It's kind of strange because as many shows as I have played over the last 10 years, I have the most vivid memory of that night.

"A 13 year old kid walked into this place, to watch his first concert ever. It was a show bill packed full of five local bands and he immediately fell in love with everything about it. He hung out, watched the bands all night, thinking, "How could I ever get the opportunity to get on that stage and do what they're doing?"

A couple of months later, he sent an email to an address that he found on their website. No original music, no performance videos, nothing except a middle school kid with a dream that hadn't even been fully thought through yet. He got an email back from Kathy Jacobs, manager of The Canal Club, offering him a spot on a Saturday night, big local show in December of 2011."

That was how I started performing. Because out of all the places I emailed and called asking for a show, Kathy responded with open arms. I think back to that year and honestly wonder why she gave me the show. But I think I understand now. Kathy and The Canal Club gives every artist a chance. No matter where they are from, what kind of music they play, she will give them the opportunity to do what they are passionate about on its stage.

The management behind The Canal Club only scratches the surface of why this place is incredible. The staff, from the kitchen, the sound and lighting engineers/security, EVERYONE just has this attitude of wanting to help and be there for musicians. I'm probably not explaining it very well, but it's something that I have NEVER experienced in any other venue across the country. They would give me feedback, advice, complements after performances that I would take home and think about to make the next one better. Honestly, how many venues have staff members that would do that for some unknown teenager trying to make it in the music industry? It's just incredible.

This venue, staff, in the simplest terms are good people. Like a lot of professionals involved in the music industry, COVID has been incredibly tough on of all of them. This venue has given myself and countless other musicians performance opportunities that wouldn't come if it wasn't for what this venue does.

To The Canal Club and its staff, Richmond loves you and we're here for you.
